Anyone holding a Porsche Design writing instrument for the first time will immediately notice the unusual material of the barrel. And rightly so, because this stainless steel design has special qualities, as we shall see when we take a brief look at the world of racing.

The 24-hour motor race at Le Mans is considered to be the toughest in the world, subjecting both man and machine to the acid test. One particularly critical area is the large number of highly sensitive electronic connections. To protect these connections from heat and mechanical strain, many teams use a TecFlex stainless steel structure as a safety coating.
The success has been amazing: TecFlex has superb anti-corrosive qualities, as well as being highly flexible and extremely resistant to wear and tear.

Porsche Design writing instruments are available in two precious metals, uniting exceptional practicality, classic aesthetics and exclusiveness in an ideal manner: stainless steel on its own or interwoven with fine threads of gold.
Stainless steel is a fascinating combination of nickel, chromium, molybdenum and tungsten. Its specific qualities include resistance to wear and tear and an almost unlimited durability of the surface. It affords a more sophisticated finish, polish and gloss than with gold.
The qualities of the stainless steel structure are unique enough, but their combination with threads of gold adds further brilliance. The threads have a silver coating and are covered by a lavish layer of 585-type fine plated gold (= 14 carat). All other metal parts feature high-quality silver plating, together with a layer of palladium, and the satin-finished shine harmonizes superbly with the shape and function of the instrument.
